Emergency Management
Emergency management is the organization and management of the resources and
responsibilities for dealing with all humanitarian aspects of emergencies. The aim is to reduce
the harmful effects of all hazards, including disasters.
A NIMS compliant Emergency Operations Plan is an essential tool for every organization and
assists in mitigation. NIMS is a standard set forth by the U.S. Government after 9/11 due to the
breakdown in communication that delayed responses of the Military and first responders.
A Safety & Security audit or vulnerability assessment is the first step. The assessment will outline
areas where improvement in safety & security is needed. This is especially helpful in formulating
budgets and provides a prioritized approach to becoming more safe and secure.
An IMT (Incident Management Team) should be established. Team members should obtain NIMS
training through FEMA or Emergency Management Solutions.
